The above four students are the data controllers for GoTato!. While each have different roles in the development of GoTato!, none are nominated for the specific purpose of security.
What information does GoTato! obtain?
Users have the option of registering upon opening the app. Registration requires (1) the user’s first name, and (2) their email address. They then have the option of adding their own customised tasks to their profile, which will be stored in an online database. The database will also store the date of the user’s last online activity; details of all completed study sessions by task name and by date; and any optional weekly goals which they choose to input.
For what purpose do you collect my data?
GoTato! collects users’ first names, email addresses, and task names to assign a unique account to each user. The user’s inputted first name can be a username of their own choosing. Assigning each user a unique account allows individual users to set their own study goals and accumulate rewards at their own unique pace, in line with the purpose of the app.
Specifically, GoTato! will assign unique accounts based on information inputted by the user. This information, at bare minimum, is a first name and email address. Two pieces of login information, two-step verification, is a standard method for maintaining user accounts easily and securely. As email addresses are unique, we need not collect the user’s legal name. Instead, they can work under their own chosen username, without having to volunteer their full legal name. This approach minimizes the damages of a potential privacy breach.
User tasks, their subjects of study or areas of work focus, are collected to more easily allow the assignment of goals and study sessions. Study session data will be collected to allow users to see and track their study habits over time.
Keeping your data up to date
Users can edit their name, email address, and password at any point by entering the “Settings” page in the app and submitting changes. Task names can be edited by navigating to the "Tasks" page and tapping "Edit".
If a user’s account has been left inactive for a period of one calendar year, GoTato! will delete their data in a responsible manner.
GoTato! obtains the information you provide when you download and register the application. Registration with us is optional. However, please keep in mind that you may not be able to use some of the features offered by the application (specifically, the ability to track your study progress and save your rewards between sessions) unless you register with us.
When you register with us and use GoTato! you generally provide (a) your first name, (b) email address, (c) classes, (d) study goals.
We may also use the information you provided us to contact you with important information, required notices, and goal reinforcement notifications.
The app may be used anonymously by tapping "Skip" on the "Login" or "Register" pages. This mirrors the offline version of the app, in which Task names and user statistics are stored locally on the device. You may clear the cache at any time on the "Settings" page.
Automatically collected information
In addition, GoTato! may collect certain information automatically, including, but not limited to, the type of mobile device you use, the IP address of your mobile device, your mobile operating system, and the type of mobile Internet browsers you use.
Does GoTato! collect precise real time location information of the device?
GoTato! does not collect precise information about the location of your mobile device.
What are my opt-out rights?
You can stop all collection of information by GoTato! easily by removing your account (from the “Profile” page) or uninstalling the application. You may use the standard uninstall processes as may be available as part of your mobile device or via the mobile application marketplace or network.
We do not use GoTato! to knowingly solicit data from or market to children under the age of 13, as outlined by the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). If a parent or guardian becomes aware that his or her child has provided us with information without their consent, he or she should contact us at email@example.com. We will delete such information from our files within a reasonable time.
We are concerned about safeguarding the confidentiality of your information. We limit access to this information to GoTato! developers who need to know that information in order to operate, develop or improve GoTato!. Please be aware that, although we endeavour to provide reasonable security for information we process and maintain, no security system can prevent all potential security breaches.
All of our data is stored online using the Firebase service; no sensitive data is stored or cached locally. Firebase provides a mechanism for specifying security rules, such that user data can be read and altered only when logged in with that user’s unique ID. Firebase also provides a user authentication method which securely stores users’ email addresses and passwords.
If you have any questions regarding privacy while using GoTato!, or have questions about our practices, please contact us via email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
